FAQ

1) What is a DTF transfer?

DTF (Direct-to-Film) is a full-color heat transfer printed onto a special film, then applied to a garment with a heat press. It’s popular because it can print high detail, gradients, small text, and bright colors without needing screens.
Best for: T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, uniforms, team wear, small brands, and bulk apparel jobs.

2) Do I need to trim anything before pressing?

Yes — this is very important. If your transfer has color registration strips (color bars) or order ID markings around the edges, you must cut them off with scissors before pressing.
Why? Those marks are printed ink too — so if you press them onto the shirt, they can permanently transfer to the garment.
Best practice: Trim close to the artwork edge, leaving a small border if needed for easy handling.

3) What are the correct press settings for DTF transfers?

Our recommended settings are designed for strong adhesion and a clean finish:

  • Preheat garment: 3–5 seconds
This removes moisture and reduces wrinkles.

  • Let the garment cool slightly before placing the transfer.

  • Place the transfer: white side down, image facing up

  • Press: 300°F for 15 seconds with very firm pressure

  • Cool + Peel: Let it cool until the film is completely cool, then cold peel

  • Final press: Cover with parchment/Teflon/butcher paper and press 5 seconds

Important: Pressure matters a lot. Too little pressure can cause lifting, edges peeling, or uneven bonding.

4) What does “cold peel” mean (and why does it matter)?

Cold peel means you should not peel the film while it’s warm.
You must wait until the carrier sheet is fully cooled down before peeling.

Why it matters:
Peeling early can cause:

  • Parts of the image to stay on the film

  • Edges to lift

  • A rough or patchy finish

Tip: If you’re unsure, wait another 20–30 seconds. When the film feels cool to the touch, peel slowly and evenly.

5) My transfer didn’t peel clean—what should I do?

This is usually easy to fix. If the image doesn’t release completely:

  1. Lay the film back down exactly in place

  2. Repress (same temp/pressure) for a few seconds

  3. Let it cool completely again

  4. Peel slowly

Most common reasons this happens:

  • Peel was attempted too soon (not fully cool)

  • Pressure wasn’t firm enough

  • Uneven pressure due to seams, collars, zippers, or thick garment areas

6) What fabrics can I apply DTF transfers to?

DTF transfers work well on most materials, including:

  • 100% cotton

  • Polyester

  • Cotton/poly blends

  • Many performance fabrics

For best results:

  • Use a flat, smooth pressing area

  • Avoid pressing directly over seams, pockets, or thick collars

  • Always preheat the garment first

Note: Some specialty fabrics (very water-repellent or heavily textured materials) can affect adhesion.

7) How do I wash and care for garments with DTF transfers?

Following care instructions keeps prints looking new longer:

Do:

  • Turn garment inside out

  • Wash cold

  • Use mild detergent

  • Tumble dry low or hang dry

🚫 Avoid:

  • Bleach

  • Fabric softener

  • Dry cleaning

  • Ironing directly on the print

Pro tip: The first wash matters. Waiting 24 hours after pressing before washing helps the adhesive fully settle.

8) What file types work best for banners and stickers?

For the cleanest print quality, send:

  • PDF (best)

  • AI / EPS (vector files)

  • PNG (high-res, transparent background if needed)

  • JPG (high-res)

For best results:

  • Use high resolution artwork

  • Make sure text is large enough to read from a distance (especially for banners)

  • If possible, use vector logos so they stay sharp at any size

9) Can I cancel or change my order after placing it?

Sometimes — it depends on production status.
If production has not started, we may be able to edit or cancel. If it’s already in production, changes usually aren’t possible because print products are custom-made.
